Car accessories, valeting and detailing
Information for drivers in England.
Choose vehicle-care work by the finish or function you want. A valet, a paint-detailing session and an accessory installation are different services. Agree the areas or equipment covered so the result can be checked at collection.
Quick answer
Agree the finish or function you want before selecting vehicle-care work. Confirm the areas, equipment and fitting included in the price.
- Agree the finish or function you want.
- Check whether equipment or fitting is included.
- Ask for aftercare and operating instructions.
Compatibility
Check that the accessory or treatment suits the vehicle.
Scope
Confirm fitting, wiring, preparation and any exclusions.
Aftercare
Keep instructions, warranty terms and the work record.
Valeting
Confirm whether the service covers the interior, exterior or both, and discuss heavy staining or pet hair in advance. Tell the provider about delicate materials, existing damage and equipment that needs special care. Ask what can reasonably be improved.
Detailing
Detailing should specify the processes and surfaces included. Discuss paint condition and the finish you expect rather than assuming every package removes every mark. If protection is applied, ask about preparation, aftercare and any stated durability conditions.
Dashcam installation
Confirm whether the price includes the camera or fitting only. Discuss cable routing, power supply, parking mode and how you will operate the device. Ask the installer to demonstrate the installation and explain its settings at handover.
Towbar fitting
The towbar, electrical kit and vehicle must be compatible. Ask what fitting, coding and checks are included. Have the vehicle's towing limits and the proposed use checked before installation; fitting a towbar does not establish that every trailer is suitable.
Agree the work before leaving the vehicle
Record existing damage and discuss any task that may need more time or materials. Confirm the total agreed price and how further work will be authorised. For electrified vehicles, cleaning procedures must suit the vehicle's systems.
Can a garage fit a dashcam I bought elsewhere?
Check acceptance, compatibility and fitting scope before purchase. Ask about power supply, cable routing and responsibility for a faulty customer-supplied device.
Does towbar fitting include the electrics?
Ask for the towbar, wiring, coding and checks to be listed individually. Confirm compatibility and vehicle limitations; a fitted towbar does not establish what your vehicle is allowed to tow.
Will fitting accessories affect my warranty?
Check the warranty conditions and installation requirements before work starts. Keep the product and fitting records and discuss any disputed claim with the warranty provider rather than assuming all cover is lost or unaffected.
Is an engine-bay clean suitable for every car?
Ask the provider how it protects sensitive components and whether the service is suitable for your vehicle. Tell it about modifications and known faults before agreeing to the job.
Can a cosmetic treatment replace a repair?
No. Ask whether the proposed treatment improves appearance or addresses the actual defect. A clean, coating or polish should not be mistaken for fixing corrosion or a mechanical problem.
