When considering an Interim Service

Read the included items and compare them with your recent service record. Check which oil and filter work is included and which items are inspected. Do not assume an interim package satisfies a manufacturer-scheduled visit simply because it is offered for your registration.

When considering a Full Service

Look for the actual replacements as well as inspection points. Ask whether items such as cabin filters or spark plugs are included, excluded or only relevant to particular vehicles. A long checklist can contain many checks without the same number of replacements.

When considering a Major Service

Compare its extra work with the Full Service package and with what is due for your car. Confirm parts and fluids, rather than assuming 'Major' includes a timing belt, brake-fluid change or every filter.

Use the vehicle's age, mileage, engine and service history. Manufacturer information is specific to the model and may be supported by the vehicle's own service reminder. Ask the garage to reconcile that information with the package before booking.

A practical way to compare two garages

Give both garages the same vehicle details and work requirements. Compare the included replacements, required specifications, total price and service-record arrangements. If one package omits a job you need, include that difference in your decision.

Which is better: an interim, full or major service?
