MOT and service offers: understanding the total

A worked example

Example only: an MOT normally costs £50 and a Full Service costs £200. A 20% discount on the MOT reduces that item to £40. If you book both, the combined price is £240 rather than £250, saving £10.

The £40 figure is the MOT price. It is not the price of both services. These are illustrative amounts, not a live BookMOTGarage offer.

What does 'requires another service' mean?

A conditional offer applies when the required service is part of the booking. An MOT discount linked to Full Service may differ from the discount linked to Interim Service. Check the selected combination and the final displayed total.

Check what is actually selected

Selecting Full Service alone does not automatically add an MOT. When choosing an offer, review the selected service list before confirming. Services presented as alternatives should be compared as alternatives, rather than assumed to stack into one larger saving.

Compare the work as well as the saving

Read the service's included items, vehicle applicability and fixed price. A larger percentage discount does not establish that the overall package is better for your needs. If a service is already due, comparing the complete price for that work is more useful.

Use the current booking total

Offers can depend on dates and the selected location. Return to the booking summary after changing a service to check the current prices and any applicable discount. Ask the garage about unclear inclusions before confirming; further repairs need their own agreement.

Does the discounted MOT price include the service?

Not unless the offer explicitly says it is a combined total. Read the individual service prices and the final total before selecting the package.

Can I use two offers together?

Check the displayed conditions. Do not assume discounts stack or that alternative service packages should both be selected. Review the booking total after changing any selection.

What happens if I remove the required service?

The condition for the MOT discount may no longer be met. Check the revised summary before confirming; an earlier offer price is not a promise for a different combination.

Is an offer still valid after its end date?

Check the offer's date conditions and your booking confirmation. Ask the garage about an unclear appointment or purchase deadline rather than assuming that seeing an old offer preserves it.
